August 14, 2010. The original plan was for Paddy and I to meet Scott, Laura and
Liam inside the Inn At
Reading and have lunch, then go to the Reading Fair.
Paddy and I arrived a half hour early so we visited the famous Reading landmark:
the Pagoda, at the
top Mt Penn. Scott, Laura and Liam also arrived early, so they
joined us at the Pagoda. (what did we do before cellphones?)
Many
years ago while Ken traveled the back roads of Reading, he came across a
Medieval castle that was a restaurant and remembered how nice it was.
Making an inquiry at the Pagoda, we found that the Stokesay Castle was recently re-opened and was
serving lunch; so we traveled the one mile to the restaurant. Yes it was
impressive.
It
was a nice day so we elected to have lunch on the outside patio. Lunch was
excellent, the food was great and and our server, Sarah, was very pleasant and helpful.
After the first photo, Liam played to the camera and went "hollywood".
We
took a self guided tour on the patio side of the Castle. Liam wanted to
climb into the fountain, but dad anticipated his move. and there was no wet
feet.
We
continued our tour inside.
The
first time I visited the castle there was a dungeon, which is now a wine cellar.
Returning outside, Stokesay Castle was preparing
for a wedding.
One last look at the castle and the out building,
then back to the cars for our trip to the Reading Fair. All of us agreed:
we will return again for sure !!
We arrived at the Reading Fair. Liam took a
merry go round ride.
When I saw the red white and blue banner, I
thought a congressman was present, but this guy didn't throw money around, nor
did he say "people before politics", so I know he wasn't in congress.
Liam
walked around the 4H area and enjoyed the animals.
There was a riding contest and we checked it out. One doesn't see this in
real time but at one point the horses were completely off the ground.
Scott shot some hoops. The camera seem to suggest that he made the
shot..........
Liam climbed into
a Marine Hummer and I think he wanted to drive off.
