October 24, 2009. After the railroad shop tour, we stopped at the on premises restaurant for lunch. It was 1:15 and our train ride was scheduled for 2 PM.
Naturally, a gift shop required our presence and this was no exception.
As the clerk was ringing up our loot, the power went out and I wondered if I could get a photo in a darkened room. It worked. The clerk added up our stuff with pencil and paper and luckily we had exact change.
Off in the distance, we heard the steam engine whistle and followed the train into the station.
Preparing for the next trip, the engine disconnected from the cars, the switch was thrown, and the engine backed up toward the front of the cars. Another switch was thrown and the engine was connected to the cars.
I noticed the fireman removing an aluminum foil bag from the fire using his shovel. I wondered what it was and found out it was hot dogs, which he shared with the conductors. I never saw this before and thought it was a very neat and practical idea.
Next to the restaurant, Scott was using the men's room. Liam thought his dad was not going on the train and was sad.
When Scott returned to the train, things got much better.
The steam train ride was enjoyed by all.
