October 3, 2008. The Danube is an important transportation route. It connects the Black Sea with the industrial cities of Western Europe. It can carry large vessels on most of its course. Through the marvel of engineering, the Danube has been partly canalized in Germany (5 locks) and Austria (10 locks). Our ship had to traverse some locks going from Vienna to Bratislava. It was a very interesting experience.
